Knee ligament arthrometer
Knee ligament arthrometers can accurately evaluate the anterior-posterior displacement of the tibia relative to the femur even in large, well muscled or obese individuals.
In the OSMCI the KT-1000 knee ligament arthrometer (Medmetric Corp., San Diego , CA ), which was first introduced in 1982, is used.
Arthrometers are widely used in patients suffering from rupture of the anterior or the posterior cruciate ligament.
Specifically, they are used:
- In the diagnosis of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) disruption (side-to-side difference in the A-P displacement of the tibia greater than 3mm is indicative of ACL rupture)
- In the diagnosis of partial anterior cruciate ligament tears (side-to-side difference in the A-P displacement of the tibia less than 5mm is included in the definition of the partial tear of the ACL)
- In the evaluation of the knee stability in patients who have undergone ACL reconstruction surgery.
- In posterior cruciate ligament injuries.
